Description
Annelida Polychaeta III is an update on the knowledge of the polychaete annelids of the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Island's coasts.
The current volume includes a detailed study of the families Lacydoniidae, Sphaerodoridae, Amphinomidae, Euphrosinidae, Spintheriidae, Orbinidae, Paraonidae, Cossuridae, Opheliidae and Nerillidae composed by an in-depth taxonomic and bibliographic review that is used to prepare a general introduction on the family, summarizing the most relevant morphological, taxonomic and systematic features, as well as identification keys for genus and species. The reader will find a detailed description with the most relevant morphologic characters for each of the 103 species included in the volume, together with illustrations highlighting the most relevant anatomical features and a summary of what is known on their biology and geographical distribution.
With this study that follows the previous publication in the FAUNA IBERICA series of the volumes 21 (San MartÃn, 2003) and 25 (Viéitez et al., 2004); the former dedicated to the family Syllidae and the later to the families Phyllodocidae, Hesionidae, Pilargidae, Nereididae, Nephtyidae, Paralacydoniidae, Chrysopetalidae and Pisionidae; we continue the review of the Aciculata clade (formerly known as Errant Polychaetes) and we begin the study of sedentary clade Scolecida.
