This monograph is the first complete and updated publication that includes all Iberian Cholevidae. It contains the analysis of all the epigean colevids, with 50 species belonging to the subfamilies Anemadinae, Cholevinae and Ptomaphaginae. All the members from these groups can be found in open habitat, or alternatively they can be foleophiles, mirmecophiles, bark-dwellers or, only a few, with a hypogean behaviour. This monograph also includes all the colevids that are strictly hypogean and endogean, as these groups are very well represented in the Iberian fauna with 163 species of the subfamily Leptodirinae. This subfamily has been a strong subject of research due to their morphological adaptations and their way of living, generally linked to caves, the superficial subterranean medium (SSM), and sometimes to the hemiedaphic medium.

This publication is the best way to learn about this group of insects through the detailed paragraphs for each species that contain the information compiled in the last hundred years on the biogeography, geonemy, biology, ethology and ecology of these Coleopterans.

The reader will be able to identify the adults of all species through dichotomous keys that have been developed for all taxonomic levels. Additionally it also includes detailed descriptions of the external morphological characters as well as the male and female genitalia for all species.

The book contains numerous highly detailed slides in black and white (more than 300), as well as 18 coloured photographs of different environments. All this is complemented by an extensive bibliography –more than 550 references– and an appendix devoted to nomenclature.
