Description

In this monograph of Iberian Fauna a revision of the class Branchiopoda in the Iberian-Balearic range is presented. In accordance with the latest trends in the classification of Crustacea, the class Branchiopoda includes six orders: Anostraca, Spini-caudata (as a part of the previously considered Conchostraca), Clenopoda, Anomopoda and Onychopoda (all three called Cladocera in the past), and Notostraca. The work was based on the study of more than 2.000 samples for all over the Iberian Balearic area and includes identification keys, very complete original descriptions of native populaitons profusely ilustrated (15 photomicrographies and 181 plates with more than 1500 illustrations) and information on the biology and distribution of 111 species under consideration. As a complement, keys to remains are given wich will useful for wildlife, toxicological and paleolimnological studies. Finally, a careful revision of the scientific nomenclature is included.
